Committees are small deliberative bodies that focus on specific issue areas, as you can see from the list of standing committees on your left. SSCCC employs committees for several reasons:
1.) Efficiency
• The Senate is too large to appropriately and efficiently consider a complex issue. In committee, interested Senators can meet to iron out details.
2.) Coordination
• Committees meet to discuss developments in their area, review projects that cut across organizational boundaries, etc.
3.) Research and Recommendations
• Committees are often charged to do research and make recommendations on a specific issue. Some committees are ad-hoc - that is, formed to fulfill one mission, then dissolve after issuing recommendations (usually in the form of a report to the Senate).
