Increasing access to financial aid at the California community colleges

Dear California Community College Student Leaders,

It was great meeting so many of you in LA this past weekend. Thank you so much for inviting me and the Institute's vice president, Lauren Asher, to be part of your General Assembly.  It was exciting for us to see all the committed, smart, and energetic students who are working to make a difference in the lives of other students at their own campuses and throughout California.

I'm following up with you for two reasons. First, to respond to all the requests Lauren and I got for copies of our presentations and materials.   And second, because we really want your feedback about how the financial aid process is -- and isn't -- working for students on your campus.

If you would like copies of our PowerPoint presentations, please email me at LSzabo-Kubitz@ticas.org. You can also access our report, Green Lights & Red Tape, at: http://www.ticas.org/pub_view.php?idx=274,
and our two most recent issue briefs, “Denied: Community College Students Lack Access to Affordable Loans”: http://www.ticas.org/pub_view.php?idx=329
and “Proposed Cal Grant Cuts Would Hit Community College Students Hardest”: http://www.ticas.org/pub_view.php?idx=315

If you'd like us to present on your campus or have other questions or suggestions, please call or email -- all my contact information is below.

And if you're already working to document or change the way financial aid works on your campus, let us know!  Your efforts and ideas can help inform our work around the state.

Thank you again for all the hard work you do, and I look forward to working with you to improve access to financial aid at the CCCs.
