Re: AB 2261(Ruskin)

This is good news, but I want eveyone to know that the original bill got amended. All the lottery fund language was removed but thats Ok this bill is still good. Call your assemblymember and senator and tell them that you want this bill passed.

Re: AB 2261(Ruskin)

Heres the language that replaced the part that said districts could use lotto money. "Community colleges that participate in the pilot
program may support program costs though existing state funds
appropriated for purposes consistent with this program, or through
federal and
private funding. The Chancellor of the
California Community Colleges may designate a lead community college
district to coordinate the planning and development of the pilot
project. "

Re: AB 2261(Ruskin)

AB 2261 was put in the suspense file in the assembly due to its fiscal impact. I hope that the author will amend the bill to take out the language that is causing the review.

Heres the problem, the bill sets up this program right, well after 3 years the program needs to be reviewed. The Assembly fiscal people are saying that will cost $200,000. ( I would do it for free).

As you know any bills with a fiscal impact of more than $50,000 are going into suspense files due to the "budget crisis".

Re: AB 2261(Ruskin)

Students Unite,

As AB 2261 moves forward, it has been analyzed to "potentially" incur "cost pressure" on the System Office, this Dept. of Finance analysis is old, back when it was AB 577, I urge you to write Senator Torlakson and let him know that AB 2261 is only going to use outside, private funding. If AB 2261 is put on the suspense file Monday, August 4th it may never come off and die there. FYI the Senate Appropriation Suspense File will be considered August 7th. If AB 2261 isn't moved to the Senate Floor by then we will say "R.I.P. OER, You came and tried to help students but died in the good fight."

Let the world know you are awake, have emotions, ideas and are living. That you want change!

Join me in telling the Governor that the people of California want AB 2261 to be law.
