Student Body Associations are uniquely positioned to champion inclusive and respectful campus communities. With that in mind, the SSCCC offers guidance on how to properly utilize the LGBTQ+ Inclusivity Toolkit and accompanying resources, developed to support equity, inclusion, and belonging across our community college system.

The toolkit is a comprehensive and user-friendly resource designed to help campuses create affirming environments for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty. It includes training examples, sample letters to assist with the advocacy portion, and other external sources.

The engagement of student leaders is essential to the success of this initiative. The following are key steps you can take to help ensure the effective use of this toolkit:

  1. Familiarize Yourselves with the Toolkit

Take time to review the content, understand the objectives, and explore how it aligns with your campus’s values and goals. You can also analyze Example Resolutions that have passed through the SSCCC from student advocates.

  2. Advocate for Campus-Wide Implementation

Partner with campus departments such as Student Services, Equity and Inclusion, and Human Resources to support the integration of sensitivity trainings. You can use our Advocacy Letter Templates as a starting point.

  3. Organize and Promote Training

Encourage your peers to attend LGBTQ+ sensitivity workshops or events. Consider co-hosting sessions in collaboration with campus staff or local organizations. You can look at example LGBTQ+ Sensitivity Trainings from different colleges.

  4. Create Safe, Open Spaces for Dialogue

Utilize the toolkit’s discussion guides and activities to spark meaningful conversations around identity, inclusion, and allyship within your student community. You’ll also find External Resources that offer valuable perspectives and additional support.

  5. Provide Feedback and Share Success Stories

Your experiences and observations can help strengthen future versions of the toolkit and inspire other student bodies across the state. If you have any suggestions, success stories, or feedback, please contact us

Your leadership can set a powerful example in making our campuses more inclusive and respectful for all students. Thank you for your dedication to equity and for being a driving force for positive change.
