The SSCCC Advocacy Academy is now accepting proposals for workshop session presenters. We invite you to become an integral part of this annual event. This year, the SSCCC will welcome groups of students, associated student body organizations, partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate insightful and empowering discussions and collaboration among students, educators, and other interested parties.
This year's conference theme is “Our Future, Our Voice: Centering Student Voice in Civic Action” The following are the Workshop Strands for this year’s conference.
Advocacy Through Action
Workshops in this strand equip college students with the tools and resources to harness
their voices as powerful advocates for change. Representing more than 2 million students, the SSCCC plays a critical role in shaping higher education policy through legislative advocacy. Student leaders are the driving force behind this impact, and strengthening their skills is essential. In these workshops, participants will build practical strategies to influence policy, engage decision-makers, and raise awareness on the issues that matter most to students. Topics include: advocacy, relationship building, social justice, public speaking, and coalition building.
Amplifying Student Voice
Workshops in this category are designed to empower students with essential leadership skills
and strategies. Participants will strengthen their self-awareness, develop leadership strengths, and cultivate the confidence needed to create meaningful change in their communities. Sessions may include practical tools such as storytelling to shape advocacy narratives, public speaking practice, team-building exercises, and using social media as a leadership platform. These experiences help students learn how to connect authentically with others, share their lived experiences, and lead with purpose. Topics include: storytelling, public speaking, social media tactics, and coalition building.
Building Community
These workshops highlight the importance of fostering community change through innovative
approaches, community engagement, action planning, and collaboration. Participants will also explore how storytelling can amplify their lived experiences and how social media can be leveraged as a powerful advocacy tool to mobilize peers, raise awareness, and influence decision-makers. Through interactive exercises and dynamic discussions, participants will acquire practical skills to share their stories effectively, build digital campaigns, and strengthen their
leadership as community advocates. Topics include: community engagement, action planning, storytelling, advocacy, outreach, and recruitment.
Leadership and Professional Development
This workshop strand equips students with the skills, tools, and confidence
to grow as leaders both in their colleges and in their future careers. Workshops in this strand focus on strengthening personal leadership skills, including communication, collaboration, and decision-making, while also offering strategies for career readiness, networking, and mentorship. Participants will explore how to lead inclusively across diverse communities by developing cultural competence and enhancing skills in time management, conflict resolution, and team building. Topics include: leadership, professional networking, organizational skills, and empowerment.
